A license to have children

Daily Prompt: The Eighth Sin

Remember the seven cardinal sins? You’re given the serious task of adding a new one to the list — another trait or behavior you find particularly unacceptable, for whatever reason. What’s sin #8 for you? Why?

 I say this for a few reasons…

I think that if we need a license to drive a car; if we need a license to operate machinery; if we need a license/passport to travel, if we need a license to be married, we should require a license to have children.  I just watched a show about how many children are just sitting in foster homes and how the number of foster parents has sharply declined.  How sad is that?

I once read a quote that every boy deserves a father, but not every father deserves a son.  I cannot express how true this quote is.  I believe that all these irresponsible “parents” popping out child after child, should have to have a license to do so.  There are far too many children suffering, as their parents are sitting in jail, or neglecting them.  Children NEED love.  This is not something they’re going to find sitting in a foster home, just waiting for someone to walk by and pick them.  It’s like a dog kennel!  Thank God for the department of social services.  They’ve become so inundated with children, causing them to fall behind (in L.A. anyway, as that’s where the show was produced).  The state law requires that every child is placed in a home (whether it be family or foster) within 24 hours.  There was a boy in the building that has been there for 8 days because there’s just no place to put him.  Another boy had to celebrate his birthday there.  If these children are between the ages of 8 and 12, what were their previous living conditions like?  What were they exposed to?  What have they seen that was inappropriate?  Mom shooting heroine into her arms and passing out on the floor?  Dad never around, out on the streets?  It makes me sick to think of what these children are feeling.  what are they going to grow up to be?  Doctors and lawyers?  Computer technicians?  No, because they are very angry and bitter, and resentful.  I’m not even going to talk about “Safe Haven” where you can just drop your newborn off with no questions asked.  Again, thank God such an organization exists, so the number of dead newborns in dumpsters has declined.

So, I think everyone who wants to have a child should have to pass a series of tests to obtain a license, granting them permission to have children.  I apologize if this offends anyone, but this show really got to me.  Some people are truly disgusting and don’t deserve to have children, when there are thousands of couples who cannot have children.  If the house is full of hatred, yelling, screaming, drug or alcohol abuse…FAIL.  No kids for you.  If there is no stability, constant moving, evictions on your record… FAIL…no kids.  I think you get where I’m going.  Some people just don’t deserve to have children.  Seeing all those kids just sitting there, waiting…broke my heart.

    • I know… It’s just so sad to see a couple in love struggling to have a baby of their own, and then turning on the tv to see all these children in foster care because no one wants them. Needless hurt and pain. If one were to require a license to get pregnant, perhaps we could narrow down the foster care population, and all the suffering these kids feel.
